Chrome Web Store’s new set of policies to combat spam and deceptive content

With the development of the Internet, more and more dangerous content is buried in hidden corners. In order to ensure the safety of users surfing the Internet, web browser developers are also working hard to improve their own protection capabilities. However, in addition to attacks from external websites, the browser itself may also appear to be sparsely packed, especially with the increasingly abundant extensions in recent years. Google pointed out that, similar to the situation on the Android platform, certain extensions that claim to have new features are actually deceptive.

In order to eliminate problematic extensions hosted in the Chrome Web Store, Google is implementing a new set of policies to increase its efforts to combat spam and deceptive content. Common spam includes a series of extensions from the same developer. They either have the same functions, or they deliberately split certain functions into rather trivial ones.

For users, this will make them feel very confused, and it is very likely that some omissions when uninstalling the extension, resulting in some remaining extensions can still carry out dirty user data collection work.

The good news is that Google’s new policy is designed to forcefully curb such deceptions. After the implementation of the New Policies, the Chrome Web Store will no longer allow developers to publish multiple extensions of the same type, and especially prohibits inducing users to download another extension.

Earlier, the search giant also introduced new measures aimed at improving the security of developer accounts. In the future, it will force new and old accounts to enable two-factor authentication to reduce the chance of being hacked, thereby ensuring that end users are protected from malicious intent. The harm of software.
